agutterfan Lovely atmospheric ballads, acoustic guitar with ambient synth noises, electric guitar & piano. First two tracks are peerless. Favorite track: Strange and Unusual.

Sean Conran Jack's music is a familiar delicacy for me, and mostly exists as lofi demos on an old ipod that I would listen to on repeat as I fell asleep in bed.

This EP makes me feel as if I woke up the next day with my headphones still in, rolled over into a warm imprint of a loved one, who left moments ago, and pressed play.

Undeniably Jack, and rich with nostalgic imagery

Something's very strange here, words left on the page, dear. I write by candle light. I need you is that alright? You were the noise I heard, the polaroid I captured. I gave you such a fright, I'm sorry I'll make it right I know what I'll do. I will follow you.

Dissatisfied, But I built a life. It's just been pieced together, So I can't complain. So juxtaposed, But it's what we need. I know he'll cover for me, So I'll strut in late. I swear this time I'll be better, I won't spit on anyone. The harbinger, I hate it when I'm right. may never get what I want, There's no lights back there. And blasphemy, The body dropped right down. Are you open? Because he was mine first. So what did you like better? He won't close for anyone, Anyone except for me. I swear this time I'll be better. I won't spit on anyone

Take your blades across the ice, scrape enough to make me think. You came home, noticed, and screamed. And your father poured me a drink. Come down to see me, I'm at the bottom of the hill. Waiting by the trees you made, Standing completely still. Watch me spin, cold from your hands. I say I can't, but you demand. And he can't care enough to change. At least I hope become estranged. I'd write forever, From the bottom of my shoes, You question why I did it. It's because you asked me to. Watch me twirl in the light, of your night. Steady as she goes. I thought that I would spin forever, Our beauty is on show. But this suburban pressure, it's hard to let it go. And I am half-machine, It's hard for me to grow. But you know how to love, And that is all I know. Sometimes, you still can catch me dancing In the snow. I'd write forever, At the top of my arm. Nothing I'd do, ever Would bring you in to harm.

about

Video Tapes is about my connection to late 80’s and early 90’s cinema. It covers love, longing, relationships and identity through the prism of Beetlejuice, Clerks, Labyrinth and Edward Scissor Hands.

It was recorded, mixed and mastered in the home studio of my friend Jonathon Tooke (who plays guitar is Bec Sandridge’s band and Basil’s Kite (and a lot of other bands too.)) He plays some of the instruments as well. I’ve been working with Jonno since 2012, and our working partnership is now in a really creatively intuitive spot. We know how each other works, and this allows us to truly explore our ideas deeply. His skills as a producer and as a musician are unbelievable. I’d hate to think where I’d be without him.

The idea for this ep came from a conversation with Peter Covington (Spiritfaces.) I was feeling really creatively flat at the beginning of the year, and he reminded me how when he saw me at the beginning of my career there were a lot of filmic references, both in the song and in the banter on stage. He suggested I explore where that came from, and try to recharge myself creatively by reaching back to those early influences. This sparked my fascination, and the songs poured out of me really quickly.
